Landmark essays on ESL writing-Intro

I read the introduction chapter to this volume edited by Tony Silva and Paul Kei Matsuda
Silva, T., & Matsuda, P. K. (Eds.). (2001). Landmark essays on ESL writing. Mahwah, NJ: Erlbaum.
In their own words
"What we have presented here is a brief historical sketch of developments in the field of second language writing since 1960. We hope this introduction provides a sense of how the field has evolved over the last four decades. We also hope that the readers will continue to deepen their understanding of second language writing and writers by reading the primary scholarship in the field--both here and elsewhere" (p. xxi)
Although it is brief, I enjoyed reading this chapter because it gives an overview of second language writing, both historical and thematic. I have been thinking about the main research questions in second language writing so this chapter was helpful to me. Now back to reading.
